Summer Break!

Sorry it's been so long, you see, I've been kidnapped...by my kiddos. I committed to them that I would do my very best to spend time with them over the summer. We made a bucket list of fun summer activities and I can proudly say that as of day 51, we have been able to cross off one item for every day of summer. You can read more about our summer bucket list here, I wrote an article about it for the Jacksonville Mom's Blog. At times it has been a bit stressful, realizing at 8:00 at night that I have yet to do anything fun with my kids that day but it forces me to stop what I am doing and spend some quality time with them. I wish I was one of those moms who always naturally spends quality time with my kids every minute of the day but I admit, sometimes I put other things first. They don't complain, they have their own activities to keep them occupied but knowing that I made this commitment to them has made me make them a priority for the 70 or so days that is summer vacation.
It's funny to hear what their favorite activity has been so far. We've done things like zip-lining, attend a major-league baseball game, white-water rafting, snorkeling. But they both agree that when I served them breakfast in bed, that was their favorite. It was such an easy thing to do and when I posted pictures of it on Facebook it got a crazy amount of responses so I thought I would post it here in case anyone would like to use it.

The night before, I attached these room-service tags to their door and told them to make sure to fill it out before they went to bed. Of course when I made the tags, I only put items on there that I had in my pantry so I didn't have to make a special trip to the store. I just love that something so simple brought them so much joy.

You can download the tag I used (minus our hotel name) below. If you have any problems downloading it, just email me and I'll email it to you. Once summer break is over, I'll share a few more of my favorite activities!

Yesterday, I dropped my youngest off at church camp. It is the first time she will be at an over-night camp...and it's all week long!!! She was just so excited about it that it didn't even allow me to be nervous.
So it's just me and my son this week...which means we will probably playing golf until my arms are too sore to swing a club. He has been really good about practicing on the range 4-5 days a week over the summer. I was talking to my hubby about it last week, asking him if it's normal that after a bad round Preston tells me he never wants to play golf again then about 30 minutes later he is asking me to take him back out to the course. My husband's response...golf is more addicting than any drug, there is no escaping it! So I guess he has many more years of frustration to come. Here is a little video he and I made last year, my first attempt with videoing so excuse the shaky hands. It was right when he decided that golf was the sport he wanted to focus on.  Maybe when he's playing golf in college he'll look back at this and laugh.
